A Framework for Change

Vermont Learning for the Future recognizes the essential relationship between the individual and the collective in all we do. We are driven by the moral imperatives of education: to realize and develop individual potential and to emerge a more equitable and sustainable world.

Flexible Pathways

There is no one right way to teach or learn, but realizing the full potential of Vermont's Act 77 can revolutionize our educational landscape. By combining proficiency-based assessment, expanded learning opportunities, personalized learning plans, and authentic student voice, choice and partnership in real, relevant learning journeys we can realize educational goals a century in the making.

Values-based

The preamble to the Earth Charter serves as a universal benchmark for design: "We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society grounded in respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace." The values that guide VTLFF in this work are equity, sustainability and joy. We uncover and nurture these values in education through:

  • Collaboration and Creativity

  • Equity and Inclusion

  • Youth Voice and Choice

  • Community Engagement and Empowerment

  • Citizenship and Stewardship

  • Resilience and Sustainability

equity-Centered

VTLFF recognizes that as a network of educated Vermont citizens, we operate from a position of privilege. To bring about honest and truly transformative change, we must directly confront the inequities that exist around us and work collaboratively to address them within our network and across our educational and cultural landscape. To spread and strengthen the integrity, diversity and effectiveness of our network, please join the conversation!
